Turning our attention to what is to come…

Starting off the new year with gratitude!

My mother, Lou East, and my NEW Godson! Cuillin Ross McCleod!

New Year’s Blessings!

It is still a new year, right? We are already at the cusp of Imbolc, with 3 weeks to Fat Tuesday. Time keeps rolling along!

2023 is already packed with devastation: police killings and international upheaval. We grieve with our extended community, while nurturing hope with our local organizing, cultural programming and plans for the garden.

Yes, we’re busy nurturing new growth that will nourish our community in the seasons ahead. Check out some 2023 “save the date” announcements below. But first…

Huge thanks to our community of support!

We met and exceeded our end-of-year fundraising goals! Your contributions help us run programs and serve our community!

Free the Moving Body

Join this weekly dance practice. Open to all levels of movement experience. We release tension while building strength, flexibility, balance, and ease of movement.  Enjoy heightened awareness of this precious gift of a body and the eternal “now” that it inhabits.

West African Drumming

Join in the polyrhythms and learn about the beautiful cultures of West Africa. No previous experience needed, but repeat visits are encouraged to learn all the parts of a traditional West African rhythm. Drums are provided or you can bring your own. Learn more here.

Building Racial Equity in Land, Food and Health
Sat, Feb 11th, 10 – 4 pm

This training, led by Community Food Strategies, will teach participants about historical and ongoing food system inequities, and equip participants with perspective and tools for change. There are few spaces remaining. Register Now.

Sing In the Spring!
Sat April 1st, 2 – 4 pm

We come together to join our voices, create beauty and find joy. This event will include easy to learn songs and harmonizing chants, taught by a facilitator, in the style of a Community Sing. While this program will attract folks comfortable with singing, there are no expectations about singing “well”. All are welcome!

Give us a boost! Share news of our programs!

— {Save the Dates!} —

We’ve got a lot of exciting plans in store for the year! Mark your calendars. Also chip in and help us host these great events!

Dance of Hope
May 1st – 7th

“Africa’s leading youth-based arts education program”, is coming to Rutherford County, amidst their US tour. They will share a public performance, visit some schools, and lead a workshop at Dreaming Stone. More info coming soon…

Arts, Ecology, and Circus Camp!
July 10th – 15th

We will repeat our day camp for kids, ages 8 to 13. We are excited to build an even more creative and thoughtfully curated learning experience with physical art, music, and nature. Registration will open by early March.

Chicken Bank Collective
Oct 27th – Nov 4th

This remarkable multi media dance theater collective includes artists from Mexico and the US. They will lead arts education visits within local schools and develop a performance around Dia de los Muertos and the memory held the land. We are thrilled that they will be part of our 2023 programs.
These are the last few days to register for the Bartimaeus Kinsler Institute, on “Just Community”. Jay and I will be there leading music.

This event is a perfect way to rally for Carnival and start Lent. Beyond the celebration of such perennial themes, we will be honoring the uniqueness of these times. With friends, old and new, we will commemorating pandemic milestones and pandemic losses.

May we all find ways to honor these seasons- recognizing all our reasons to sing, and allowing tears to bring comfort and relief.
Thanks for staying connected to our journey!
