Our Campus

Dreaming Stone Arts & Ecology center offers spaces for groups to gather, reflect, and retreat. Located along the Broad River, our facilities are surrounded by forest, rolling hills, walking trails, and a beautiful garden. Dreaming Stone is the perfect place to host memorable and meaningful events, workshops, meetings, and retreats.

The Land

Dreaming Stone is located along the Broad River, which was named Eswawpuddenah by the Cherokee and Catawba, meaning “dividing river”, because it marked where Cherokee and Catawba lands meet.

Much of the land is wooded, with footpaths along it. There is a pond with beavers and turtles, and access to the banks of the river to walk along. Near the main facilities is a large garden, where we practice regenerative agriculture, and grow food to feed our community and those who attend our events and workshops.

There are fire pits and outdoor seating for gathering, as well as an upper and lower patio, equipped with picnic tables and seating, that wrap around the building and look out into the woods.

The Facilities

The community room 1,500 sq ft, 44’ diameter, round meeting room is completely bare and can be set up in a variety of ways according to your needs. It features large windows with views of the gardens and forest around it, as well as a stunning wooden spiral design in the ceiling.

We have 35 chairs, Five 70” round tables, 12 backjacks, 10 pillows, 10 blankets, and one 250 sq ft rug. You are welcome to set up the room to accommodate your needs, or seek our assistance with setup in the rental agreement.

The kitchen is as beautiful as it is functional, with countertops handmade by the community using reclaimed wood from the land and resin art, as well as a large pantry, industrial sized fridge and freezer, and four deep kitchen sinks. It is perfect for hosting large groups and a welcoming space to cook and gather.

The kitchen is fully equipped with enough settings and silverware for 40 people. We are happy to recommend local caterers, but if you will be self-catering, your group will be responsible for bringing its own food as well as supplies such as paper towels, plastic wrap, coffee and tea. We ask that each group keep the kitchen tidy, as it is a shared space.

The living room and library are warm, inviting spaces to enjoy each other’s company after a meal or read one of our hundreds of books. The axis mundi of the building, our library tree, was handmade using reclaimed materials by Zap McConnell, a talented artist and board member. Discover the tree’s hidden doors, messages, and details, including a kaleidoscope and letters box.

The three guest rooms include one room with a queen bed, one with two twin beds, and one with a twin and double beds. There are two full bathrooms located on the guest room floor for shared use by the guest rooms.

Those camping on the land are welcome to use the toilets and showers in our bathwing. The bathwing includes four compost toilets, three showers, and a tub. Camping groups of larger than 24 people are required to rent one additional bath facility for every 50 people.
