Greetings Friend!

These seasonal celebrations are ancient. If you want to learn about the holy triduum of Halloween, All Souls, and All Saints Days, we commend this article to you. While profiteers work to capitalize on Halloween’s popularity, there is a growing number of folks reconnecting to the timeless traditions of honoring ancestors, remembering those we’ve lost, and celebrating the harvest.

We are doing all this and more at Dreaming Stone. Below you will learn about upcoming programs, sweet recaps of recent events and projects. May it all serve to invigorate your sense of wonder and love for the gifts of this season.

Ritual of Remembrance NEW DATE – Nov 4th!

Join this outdoor potluck and ritual. We will create beauty and remember those we have lost – loved ones, ancestors, and faith and movement heroes. This is a welcoming space for all faiths and spiritual traditions.

SEEDS: The Untold Story
Nov 10th, 6 to 8 pm

“A gorgeously made film, put together with as much care as its subjects devote to saving the remaining varieties of seeds.” – Los Angeles Times. Co-sponsored by Ruff’ton Roots, this movie shows why seed saving is key to community resilience and food security for all.

Mutual Aid Roadshow Dec 4th

Learn about plant propagation and mutual aid economies – what agroforestry has to do with liberating power. This event, co-produced by Silver Run Forest Farm and Cooperate WNC includes a barter fair, seed swap, tree planting, acorn waffles and community dinner.

Program Milestones!

Our recent “Wilderness Vigil” brought friends from around the country into a formative experience. Solo fasting practices reconnected us to embodied ways of being in relationship with land and courting transformation. We were grateful to learn some Cherokee stories and take guidance from the wisdom traditions of those native to this land.

Our Indigenous People’s Day event, featuring Cherokee storyteller Lianna Costantino and the “Concert in the Park”, featuring renowned Ugandian musician Chinobay, were two memorable events. They reinforced that our stories, songs, and cultural practices are critical to our health as a community. We are excited to hold many more such events in 2023. Stay Tuned!

Visitors are steady. Projects Are Ongoing!

As I’m typing, a floor is being installed in our community room/ event space, and the final shelves are being installed in our library. Papa Chris is building a patio behind the Mothership and my mother is leading the charge on finishing the Dome. We are pulling out the garden and tucking in the beds. We are busy! Your prayers, your encouragement, your support is always wind in our sails!

May this effort remind you that creation groans and calls us all into brave labor. That the darkness is not just of the tomb, but of the womb, and that beauty longs to be born and tended.
