Basic Life Support + First Aid Training
Saturday, July 13th: 10 am – 6 pm
Basic Life Support (BLS) + First Aid training helps participants recognize and respond appropriately to first aid emergencies, sudden illness, cardiac arrest with the use of CPR and an AED and life threatening bleeding and acute trauma using basic and intermediate medical intervention skills and equipment. Participants will gain knowledge and skills needed to give immediate care to an injured or ill person when minutes matter and to decide whether advanced medical care is needed and how to access such care.
First Aid training will cover personal safety, the use of PPE, minor injury issues (from cuts and bruises to strain and sprain stabilization), sudden illness and response to certain environmental injuries. Also included will be responding to choking/airway obstruction, anaphylaxis, opioid overdose, shock and more.
*** This training can provide you with First Aid and CPR/AED certification from the Red Cross. To receive the certification, you must pay the higher rate (that covers the certification cost). It is good for 2 years and comes with a manual you can access on the Red Cross
**** All participants will receive a healthy lunch, coffee, beverages and snacks.
Taught by Lianna Costantino
Cherokee Nation citizen, Cherokee Nation storyteller, grandmother, retired midwife and paramedic in Los Angeles, street medic, Red Cross Disaster Action Team volunteer and emergency medical instructor. Lianna trains the instructors for the Red Cross, American Heart association and Health and Safety Institute in all levels of emergency medical training. She serves on the Board of the Tribal Alliance Against Frauds (TAAF).
This a great preliminary training for Street Medic training, and participants will be alerted to the information that provides help in preparation for a Street Medic training.
